County councils are not providing enough areas for truck drivers to take rest periods. Drivers must then park on the side of the road(a crazy situation), causing distractions and unfortunate collisions. I hope the people survive this horrible accident.this stretch has a truck stop and there can be a lot of trucks parked here. Normally this is not a problem but for an early morning distracted driver it can be tragic.

The state wants to funnel the HGV’s onto the motorways where there are rest areas….but charge them for it via tolls.

RIP to the young lady and sympathy to her family and friends. Don’t care how many red thumbs I get but excluding the possibility it wasn’t a human error which is around 10% I cannot see how the driver could not see a parked truck. Even if there were no street lighting, with the car lights and possibly full beams along with reflectors on truck, in my opinion it just boils down to careless driving.

    Shawn
Do you know something the rest of us don’t?
I read the same story as you and it states the poor woman is in hospital in a serious condition, not the morgue.

Aimoo, Even if it was broke down on a turn or bend, you should always be prepared and reduce speed. Always expect the unexpected.

My apologys Alan for stating the crash was fatal and I wish the lady a speedy recovery. But I will stand by my statement that this incident was more than likely down to drivers error and could have like the majority of crashes been avoided.

    Shawn
Firstly – you do not know if this lady has passed away.
Secondly – I drove this road this morning. Visibility was extremely poor in the rain. You don’t know the circumstances and with wet roads a car could easily skid into a parked truck.

But I never said I knew the circumstances. I did say that around 90% of road crashes are down to human error. If it was due to aquaplaning while driving at a suitable speed then this would be in the 10% where nobody was at fault. Most Irish drivers do not adjust their speed to suit road conditions and when involve in a crash they always try to point their finger at somebody or something else.

True- you must be able to stop in the distance you can see. if you can’t stop in that distance you are going to fast for conditions.

Aimoo If you think the driver who ploughs into the back of a parked vehicle is the innocent party then you are a brainless village idiot. Never ever think of getting a driving licence
