The good news: French strike is over. The bad news: Air passengers still face delays today

The strike was unexpectedly called off last night after marathon talks.

THERE’S GOOD NEWS and bad news for anyone due to be flying in Europe today.

The good news: the strike by air traffic controllers in France, which began on Tuesday and was due to last six days, has officially been called off.

However the bad news is that flights are still getting back to normal and there are still delays across the continent.

Flights in and out of France were disrupted by the strike, as well as any flights which used French air space.

The strike ended late last night after marathon talks between the government and unions. Unions had protested over what they say is a lack of sufficient funding for a sector in dire need of modernisation.

France’s civil aviation body has said that 95 per cent of flights are due to go ahead today.

Hundreds of flights were cancelled yesterday and many more were delayed by the strike.

Ryanair, which operates the largest route network is Europe, was badly affected by the strike. The airline has told customers that anyone who had flights cancelled is entitled to a full refund, a free transfer on to the next available flight or the option of rerouting.

Anyone travelling today has been advised to check with their airline.
