Sorry Ireland, Aldi won’t be doing wine deliveries here after all

Shoppers in the UK will be able to avail of wine delivery … but not us.

ALDI HAVE ANNOUNCED that they are going to begin selling wine online. Yupee! But… not to you, Irish resident.

The discount supermarket chain confirmed today that reports in the Daily Star and the Examiner that said the service will be introduced in Ireland next year are “completely inaccurate and without foundation”.

Shoppers in the UK will be able to avail of wine delivery to their door by early 2016, but there are no immediate plans to do so in Ireland.

The UK service is due to be introduced in 2016 and will sell wine by the box, with some limited edition bottles available online only.

Alas, we wait with bated breath.

How about making the long term unemployed pick up litter in order to get their free money every week. Im not talking about people who have previously contributed and have recently lost their jobs, Im meaning the ones who have never bothered to work a day in their lives. If they want to keep getting their free hand outs they should be made to do some form of work to keep getting it. Its probably these types who are doing most of the littering and dumping anyway…

What about the ones claiming they can’t work because they have a bad back…. Can’t see them being directed to pick up litter.

That would be the obvious and sensible thing to do but it doesn’t work like that in this country unfortunately.

What’s wrong with getting all the gougers and scoobies
to clean the streets instead of being given a slap on the wrist in court? Probably the unions would be up in arms!

Would have given you a green thumb but for the guff re unions. I agree. Community service should be used more, alas I hear the turn up rate is something like 50 % for those currently given service.

Surely the €900,000 could be raised from litter fines?

I think each council should set up a committee with this money to investigate how to clean the streets and maybe a few trips abroad to see how other councils do it, in say himmm, Hawaii !!!!!!

A person who dumps dozens of bags of refuse on the side of the road receives the same fine as a driver who discards a cigarette end from their vehicle, therefore the guy dumping a trailer load of refuse is not dis incentivised because by paying the €150.00 litter fine (assuming that the perpetrator is caught) it is still cheaper than bringing same to the local Landfill site.

Good idea, just like the tax defaulters list.
IMO the anti litter advertising campaigns ate far too gentle. In Australia they literally have slogans on billboards like “dont be a pr*ck” and “Dont be a tosser”.slogans like these might work hwre too. It needs to be portrayed as something socially unacceptable.

Littering, while it seems low on the scale is a “habit” that shows a complete disrespect to society and the country

Local authorities should not need more money to clean up anything, just starting working more productively and they will get everything done for the same money like with the private sector. Instead of ten guys staring into a hole let one or two stare and send the others off to clean up!

Some of the graffiti is great – look at Solus for instance – an asset to our walls. Some of it complete sh1te though. Get the long term scobes to scrub off the bad stuff (but only if they’re fit for purpose of course).
