'It took me months to save for the mirror': Andreah shares her monochrome master bedroom

Andreah O’Connell’s aim was to create a ’boutique hotel feel’.

EACH WEEK, WE ask someone based in Ireland with a passion for interiors to share one photo of their favourite spot in their home.

Andreah O’Connell lives in a three-bed semi-detached home in Swords, Co Dublin with her partner, Mark.

“We both work in the furniture industry, so we’re always surrounded by new trends and styles,” says Andreah.

“I’ve always loved decorating, so after years of renting I couldn’t wait to put my stamp on my own home.”

This week, Andreah (@dreah.home) chatted us through her favourite spot: her monochrome bedroom.

What do you love about this part of your home?

I recently painted the room in Farrow and Ball Cornforth White. It’s a beautiful colour that’s so calm and relaxing in a bedroom. In certain lights it’s grey and in others it’s beige. I love coming up here in the evenings to watch TV. With only one living room in the house, I needed somewhere to go to escape the football.

What’s your favourite object in here and why?

The mirror behind the bed is one of my favourite pieces in my entire home. I spotted it in a small interior shop. It was expensive, but knew I had to have it. It took me months to save for it and I think that’s what makes it special for me. It was previously in the kitchen but it didn’t match with the decor once we redecorated a few months back. I love it so much I had to find another place for it. I think it’s perfect here.

What was your inspiration when you were putting this room together?

I wanted to create a boutique hotel feel in here, and had been looking for a velvet buttoned bed for ages. I get drawn to things I see in magazines and online and always try to save to buy the things I love. I find I have expensive taste and love nothing more than challenging myself to find the same or similar at a better price. I’m forever moving decorative pieces, cushions, curtains, and rugs from room to room. A lot of the stuff in this room was previously used in other parts of my home.

Be honest: how much tidying did you do before taking this photo?

Well, I was still waiting to hang up the mirror so the photo gave me an excuse to tick this off my to-do list. Other than that, I didn’t do much. I like to keep this room a clutter-free zone. I find it so much easier to sleep in a tidy room.

Is there anything in here you’d like to change?

I would like to change the orange-coloured laminate floor. It was in the house when we moved in and is definitely due to be changed soon. I can’t decide between a lovely plush carpet or herringbone flooring, but for the moment I have my lovely rug to cover it up.
