Angela Scanlon's life online: 'Have I ever posted something and regretted it? Yes'

Well-known Irish names tell us about their life on the internet.

TWITTER. FACEBOOK. INSTAGRAM. You’re bound to have your favourite social media site (unless you’re the type who eschews living online entirely).

And, of course, Irish celebs and well-known names have their favourite sites too. Some of them are even known for being a dab hand at the old tweet machine. So we put some questions to them about what they’ve learned from being on social media this year.

Angela Scanlon, BBC Robot Wars and One Show presenter, and radio host

What’s your favourite social media site?

Instagram. I’m obsessed. It’s problematic…

What page/site do you check every day?

I tend to just filter news through Twitter headlines so I don’t have one specific online destination where I end up daily. I’m a bit of a web whore.

If you could only follow/like one person on your favourite site, who would you choose?

BaddieWinkle on Instagram, she is the BEST! Her biog reads; “stealing your man since 1928″ and her feed looks like a unicorn vomited on it. I want to be her when I grow up/old.

What have you learned about people through social media?

They like avocado and cats more than anything else in life.

What have you learned about yourself?

I like avocado more than anything else and am not as good at photography as I once thought.

What’s your favourite post of yours?

You’re only as good as your last post! Seriously though, I don’t overthink it and also I try not to judge myself, there are enough people doing that already.

What’s your favourite post of someone else’s?

The fake one of Meryl Streep that did the rounds last year where she overcame adversity and sexism to triumph as the most badass actress in Hollywood. It’s absolute bullshit but I’m a sucker for a backstory.

Have you ever shared something on social media and regretted it?

Yes, a picture of my husband topless wearing a hat while he slept. I slept alone that night…

What are you most likely to share on Instagram?

Flowers, children (other people’s, obviously) and the sea. At least once a month there will be some love note to Ireland accompanied by a picture of a landscape and an emoji of the Ivory Coast flag (they’re very easily mixed up).

How would you sum up your persona on social media in one word?

Erratic.

Robot Wars will be broadcast on BBC Two at 8pm, 28 and 29 December.
