This joyous pic from Rio shows two of our champs celebrating their wins together

That silver medallist swag.

WHEREAS TODAY BROUGHT depressing news for the Irish Olympic team in Rio, yesterday we had a genuinely feel-good moment. Remember when Annalise Murphy won and we were so happy?

Rio Olympic Games 2016 - Day Eleven Martin Rickett / PA Wire Martin Rickett / PA Wire / PA Wire

Yesterday, Murphy claimed Ireland’s first sailing medal since 1980, winning silver in the laser radial.

She celebrated later on with her family and friends – and fellow silver medallist (and newly minted internet legend) Gary O’Donovan:

Ah, would you look.

Writing on Facebook, she confessed she still shell-shocked from her win:

This is a dream come true, not only for me but for everyone who has helped me get to this point over the last eight years! Thank you everyone for the amazing support, it means the world to me.

“Still in shock, but so proud to be Irish,” she continued. And we’re proud of YOU, Annalise. Bualadh bos!

Fantastic images of Irish champions who trained hard and achieved their dreams and did their nation proud.

Meanwhile the old Irish cute whoors are selling the nation off piece by piece and making a laughing stock of the country.

We need to make the cute old whoors in this country do time, serious time and not the joke we saw as a result of the Anglo trials. If we don’t punish those who are corrupt the cycle will continue time and time again.

Amazing work by the Irish Olympians.

We need to change the culture where guy’s like you know who are made to step down after 5 years. These boy spend too long in positions of power and it goes to their heads. Same in the FAI and look at cork GAA. Sack em all. By the way well done Annaliese and all Irish athletes.

An arrest has taken place in another country that has literally be all over the worlds’ media, including specific details and videos. What possible legal reasons does the Irish media, including journal.ie, have for their stone walling over this issue? More to the point, why is the docile Irish media afraid of challenging those in a position of power and influence, even when things stink to high heaven?

@KT, as nf said, we don’t do accountability and the more obvious point that no one can comment on the Pat Hickey issue as they’re afraid of the sh-ite of being sued, for what is beyond me considering this is an IOC scandal that occurred on a different continent. Now maybe Hickey genuinely knows nothing about this issue, but as head of the irish and european olympic organisations, the buck stops with him.

Big shout out for our winning silver medallists. I think it’s time though that the world gave the Olympic Games a rest for a few years. The Olympic spirit is just not there anymore. Too much politics, too many cheats, too many scalpers, too many bad judges, too many athletes with no humility. The Chinese used to have a good saying ” Friendship first, competition second” If only If only. …..
