“Iconic”? I suppose compared to Darcy she could be a contender for a Nobel prize. Next week the guy who recorded the “stand clear, luggage doors operate” warning.

It’s RTE, they keep on using their employees as guests on other shows to try and make them out to be celebrities in their one pathetic little world. Look at the so called “celebrities” that they use in their TVs shows, your man Gerald Keane as an example, how the f*ck is that clown a celebrity?!!

Damn, I missed the Ray D’arcy show last night. If I’d known Anne Doyle was going to be reading the news, I’d have stayed in. It’s my own fault for not checking who the guests were going to be, I’m very disappointed with myself :(

@Super Ted: You really missed out. It was one of those ‘Where were you?’ moments like Man walking on the Moon, or when John Lennon was shot. The entire Nation was ‘only delighted’ to see her on our screens. It was a real triumph.

Irish news readers are the best in the world, they bring a dignity and gravitas to the news which affects all our lives.
My father was born in Ferns also and I grew up not far from there so I’m absolutely delighted to see one of our own Anne doing so well for herself.

@Daniel Fontaine: Irish newsreaders are the best in the world! Silly overstatement.

It’s mildly irritating to see how we Irish pathetically love to make ourselves seem better than everyone else.

We Irish never lack overweening self regard.

The international trend in news reporting is one of cult like celebrity based on ratings.
RTE news readers are the opposite in that their humanity always shines through in the reportage.

Their humanity is not supposed to shine through. The news should be impartial and emotionless.

As for best in the world, go reference Tom Brokaw, Walter Kronkite, Anna Ford, Jon Snow (the other one), Peter Sissons, Alistair Stewart, Kate Silvertin, Angela Rippin or Nicholas Owen

@Daniel Fontaine: RTE’s news readers are not reporters they read what has been written down for them from a telly prompter. RTE do not report any news only snippets of what they would consider news and they are very one sided and not independent.

RTE stands for Really Terrible Entertainment. Why bring back all these so called retired celebrities when the country is awash with great young talent. There is no succession planning in place and our young and talented must emigrate to reach their potential. Come on RTE as the retail ad says when they are gone – they are GONE.
