AOL confirms acquisition of Techcrunch

INTERNET CONGLOMERATE AOL has announced the formal acquisition of influential technology news blog TechCrunch. Announcing the takeover on the site this afternoon, AOL chief executive Tim Armstrong said the acquisition was “a great complement to our continued investment in world class content”. AOL, which already owned its chief rival Engadget, saw shares rise 3% on the news.
