Renewed appeal for witnesses after passenger dies in fatal collision

A second man was injured in the collision after the car struck a wall.

GARDAÍ IN KELLS have renewed their appeal for witnesses after a man died when a car struck a wall.

The fatal traffic collision occurred in Oldcastle, Co Meath, on 5 October.

At approximately 4am, two males aged 22 and 24 were seriously injured when the car they were travelling in struck a wall on the R195, Oldcastle to Virginia Road, at Fennor Upper.

They were taken by ambulance to Cavan General Hospital.

A passenger in the car, 22-year-old Colm Melia from Oldcastle Co Meath, was later pronounced dead.

The second male (aged 24) is continuing to receive treatment in hospital and is understood to be in a stable condition.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or to anyone who travelled on the R195 between Oldcastle and Virginia in the early hours of Sunday morning, particularly between 3.30am and 4.15am, to contact Kells Garda Station on 046 9280820, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
