APPLE HAS SAID only nine people have complained to the company about their phones bending, saying that the incident is “rare” during normal use.
The company has responded to claims that the iPhone 6 Plus can be bent when enough force is applied to it. A number of users said that they noticed a slight bend after everyday use like putting the phone in their pocket.
In a statement, the company said that ”with normal use a bend in iPhone is extremely rare and through our first six days of sale, a total of nine customers have contacted Apple with a bent iPhone 6 Plus.”
It mentioned that it puts its devices through rigorous tests during the development cycle including 3-point bending, pressure point cycling, a sitting test, torsion and user studies.
Apple wasn’t the only smartphone that has experienced such bending problems. Users of the Samsung Galaxy S4, Sony Xperia Z1, the Lumia 925 and the Blackberry Z10 also experienced similar problems when they were released.
Also, the company has released another update to fix problems for those who downloaded iOS 8.0.1. The botched update, which was released on Wednesday, caused some users to experience problems with phone reception and Touch ID, the iPhone’s fingerprint scanner, and was pulled down after an hour.
The new update, iOS 8.0.2, brings the same changes as the last update, including a fix that stopped Apple from releasing any HealthKit-compatible apps in the App Store, and address an issue where 3rd party keyboards could become deselected when a user enters their passcode.
The company said that fewer than 40,000 devices were affected by the bug.
The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus have gone on sale in Ireland today, and Apple has sold more than 10 million iPhones in its opening weekend.
