'They were always the life of the group' - Tributes to lifelong friends who died in crash

Andrew Gass and Mark Hutcheson died when their car crashed yesterday.

TRIBUTES HAVE BEEN paid to two teenage friends who died in a car crash in Co Armagh yesterday.

The teenagers have been named locally as Andrew Gass from Tullyallen, Co Louth and Mark Hutcheson from Mountnorris, Co Armagh.

Both boys were 17 years old and were well known among the local farming community in the area.

Mountnorris Young Farmers Club last night cancelled its AGM after the death of the two teenagers whom it called “valued members” of the club.

Writing on its Facebook page, the club paid tribute to the two teenagers:

They were always the life of the group, they added mischief and fun to every meeting. Both boys were a credit to the Hutcheson and Gass families and the community. Both had keen interests within the agricultural industry and Andrew in the previous year held a position on our committee.

The Belfast Telegraph reports that the two had grown up together and attended Markethill High School before going to college together. The paper quotes Markethill’s principal James Maxwell also paid tribute to them.

“Both boys were popular, well-mannered and respected members of the school community who demonstrated passion and commitment towards all aspects of school life.”

The pair died when the car they were travelling in left the Cladymilltown Road near Markethill in Co Armagh yesterday morning.
