Armed gang hold up staff and rob cash from Cavan bank

No shots were fired and no one was injured during the incident yesterday evening.

AN ARMED GANG made away with what Gardaí say was a substantial amount of cash after holding up staff at a Bank of Ireland branch in Cavan yesterday evening.

The incident happened at the bank on Main Street in Kingscourt just before 5pm yesterday. A number of armed men entered the bank and held up staff before making off with a substantial sum of cash.

No shots were fired and there were no reported injuries during the incident.

The men initially made off in a waiting car which was then set alight a short distance away. They then escaped in a second car in the direction of Bailieborough.

No arrests have been made as yet and investigating Gardaí are appealing for anyone who noticed any suspicious activity yesterday or in recent days in the vicinity of Main Street to contact them.
