Arnotts evacuated after fire in men's clothing department

The blaze broke out at around 5pm.

SHOPPERS IN ARNOTTS in the capital were ordered to leave the department store this afternoon after a fire broke out on the premises.

Hundreds of people left the store as staff announced that a fire had started in the men’s clothing section at around 5pm.

A statement from the store read: “A small fire in the men’s department of Arnotts set off the sprinkler system this afternoon and was extinguished within minutes.

“There was no risk to customers or staff and the store will reopen as normal tomorrow morning. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
