Man charged over wedding shooting in Fermanagh

Barney McGinley (63) died in the attack.

Updated Saturday 21 February

A MAN HAS been charged in connection with the death of a 63-year-old man at a wedding earlier this month.

Detectives from the PSNI launched a murder investigation after Barney McGinley was shot while attending a ceremony in Newtownbutler, Co Fermanagh.

PSNI Detective Chief Inspector Una Jennings said:

A 46 year old man has been charged with the murder of Bernard McGinley in Newtownbutler on Wednesday 11 February.

He is due to appear at Omagh Magistrates Court this morning.

Police in Fermanagh issued a strong statement after the man’s death, telling the perpetrators “we know who you are” and urging them to come forward.

There was concern about possible violence in and around the McGinley’s funeral this week, and armed gardaí were in attendance.

The PSNI confirmed that a 46-year-old man was arrested in Belfast on Wednesday in connection with the shooting.
