Man arrested at Stansted Airport on suspicion of 'preparing for a terrorist act'

He had arrived on a flight from Istanbul.

A MAN WAS arrested at Stansted Airport in London on suspicion of preparing for a terrorist act yesterday afternoon.

In a statement released today, the Metropolitan Police said detectives from the counter-terrorism unit arrested a 49-year-old man from south Essex.

The man had arrived at the airport on a flight from Istanbul. The arrest does not relate to activities in the UK.

The man was taken into custody and later bailed to return to a south London police station in early February 2017.

Detectives also executed a search warrant at an address in south Essex.
