Man arrested after two women held at knifepoint in burglary

The incident happened shortly before midnight last night.

GARDAÍ IN CORK have this evening arrested a man in connection with a burglary in the city.

Shortly before midnight last night a man knocked on the door of a house on Highfield Avenue, College Road.

He then burst into the property holding a knife and threatened two women in their early-20s who were home at the time.

Both managed to escape the ordeal uninjured, and the intruder left the the house with a small sum of money, handbags and phones.

He fled the scene on foot.

A short while later a man in his early-30s was arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

He appeared before Cork District Court this afternoon and was taken into custody.
