A lot of people really weren't feeling the government's Spring Statement

The coalition’s much-hyped economic statement was released this afternoon, to an outburst of (mostly) joyous cynicism.

THE GOVERNMENT RELEASED its spring statement this afternoon, and it’s safe to say that reaction has been, well, a little mixed to what felt like a bit of a pre-election statement as opposed to an announcement of mad economic wonder.

As you might expect, Twitter had plenty to say about the coalition’s self-love fest, and not all of it kind…

There was sober political analysis:

Rampant cynicism from the head of the Irish Mortgage Holders Organisation:

This guy reckoned the Taoiseach was keeping himself awake by any means possible:

To be fair, having the former Labour Tanaiste there to mix things up might have been interesting:

We’re not falling for this one again Barry…:

A not altogether unreasonable request:

Please, the Irish people would never do something as daft as this:

Did the clocks go forward then?

The spring statement was definitely making a statement about something:

This woman sounds like she was very close to going over the edge:

And finally, and predictably:

So, it was all a big fuss about not much it seems.

Still and all, if there’s a spring statement it must officially be spring, so that’s good.
