Man in his 70s dies after being hit by car

Gardaí have sealed off the road and are investigating the scene.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING after a man in his 70s was killed in a road traffic collision in Co Monaghan.

The incident happened on the N2 at Killmarley, Co Monaghan at 5:30pm this evening and involved the man, who was walking, and a car.

The man was seriously injured in the incident and was pronounced dead at the scene. A male driver of the car was uninjured after the collision.

There was no one else in the car at the time.

The road is closed to facilitate a forensic collision examination and diversions are now in place. It is expected that the road will remain closed until 12 noon tomorrow.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to contact Monaghan Garda Station on 047 77200, The Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
