Fine Gael slumps as Sinn Féin rises in latest poll

The poll results also show a rise in support for independents.

SUPPORT FOR FINE GAEL has dropped while Sinn Féin is more popular among voters according to the results of the latest opinion poll.

The results of the Sunday Business Post/Red C poll show that Fine Gael is down two points to 28%, while Sinn Féin is up three points to 20%.

The news will come as a boost to Sinn Féin as they face being potentially the second largest party in the next Dáil.

Fianna Fáil has risen by one point to 18%, while support for Independents has risen by two points to 13%.

  • Labour 8%
  • Fianna Fáil 18%
  • Sinn Féin 20% (+3)
  • Independents 13 (+2)
  • Independent Alliance 3% (-1)
  • Social Democrats 4% (+1)

  • Green Party 2%
  • Renua 1%

The poll was conducted before Thursday’s leader’s debate. Based on these figures, the outgoing Fine Gael/ Labour government would be significantly short of an overall majority.
