Man (35) killed and others injured after car crash on the Coast Road

A motorcycle was also involved in the incident.

GARDAÍ IN CLARE are investigating the circumstances of a car crash with a motorcycle this evening in which one person died and another was seriously injured.

At about 4.45 this evening a car carrying three people was involved in a collision with a motorcyclist on the Lisdoonvarna to Kilrush road, known locally as the Coast Road.

The incident occurred about 8km outside of Kilrush.

Following the collision, the front seat passenger of the car – a man aged 35 – was seriously injured and pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was taken to the morgue in Limerick.

The male driver and a female passenger of the car (both aged in their mid-30s) were injured and taken to Galway University Hospital. Their injuries are described as non-life threatening.

The motorcyclist was seriously injured in the crash and is being treated at Limerick Hospital.

The road is currently closed to facilitate a Forensic Collision examination and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them in Ennistymon on 065 7072180, the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
