Miserable weather on the way as warnings issued for south and west

There will be a lot of holding onto hats and scarves this weekend.

IF YOU’VE GOT plans this weekend, we hope they’re indoors.

Met Éireann are kicking the weekend off with three status yellow weather warnings.

Wexford, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Waterford are being warned that a deep Atlantic depression is set to be strong winds into tonight and tomorrow. The warning will be in effect from 3pm today until 6pm tomorrow.

The weather service is promising us “unseasonably strong southwesterly winds” that could reach 80-90 km/r in some coastal areas. Rough seas are to be expected with some heavy thundery rain or showers at times also.

However, in classic Irish-weather fashion, temperatures will remain in the high teens.

A rainfall warning was also issued as until tomorrow for Clare and Kerry, with a strong chance of spot flooding in certain areas.

A status yellow alert is for weather forecasts which do not pose a great risk, but are meant to notify people in the area that they should be particularly aware of their surroundings – and to expect the unexpected.

There is also a Gale and Small Craft Warning in effect, as “winds will reach force 6 or higher on all coasts of Ireland during today”.
