No injuries after bomb explodes at charity race in New Jersey

Another device is being investigated in the area.

A DEVICE EXPLODED in New Jersey in the United States today along the planned route of a charity run, according to local police.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the explosion, which took place at about 9.35am local time (2.35pm irish time).

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement on Facebook that an explosive device discharged in a bin in the Seaside Park area of New Jersey.

A second explosive device is said to be under investigation in the area, and people are being advised to stay away.

“At this time the area is on lockdown while bomb dogs search for additional devices,” Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said in statement.

There is a report of at least one other device which the NJSP will make safe. Please avoid the area.

The bomb went off along the route of Marine Semper Fi 5km race for charity.

NBC reports that about 5,000 people were expected to attend the race which was supposed to start at about 9am.

“The start of the run was delayed, which thankfully avoided a large number of runners in the area,” the prosecutor’s office said.
