File to be sent to DPP regarding alleged sexual assault at Bon Secours Hospital

A woman in her 60s claims to have been raped by a medic at the hospital earlier this month.

A FILE IS to be sent to the DPP in relation to an alleged sexual assault at the Bon Secours Hospital in Tralee.

A woman in her 60s claims to have been raped by a medic at the hospital earlier this month.

Speaking this afternoon on Radio Kerry, Kerry’s Chief Superintendent Con Cadogan said that the incident was being investigated by gardaí and that a file would be forwarded to the DPP “in due course”.

“A number of witnesses have been interviewed, statements have been taken, CCTV has been harvested,” said Cadogan.

“At this stage we’re in the process of awaiting results from forensics and in due course a file will be forwarded to the DPP.”

Gardaí confirmed yesterday that they were investigating the incident, which is said the have occurred on 10 September.

“On the date of the incident the area where it occurred was a designated crime scene that has been fully examined by our crime examiners here in Tralee,” said Cadogan.

The Irish Independent reports that the person allegedly involved in the incident is believed to have since fled the country.

Cadogan said he could not confirm reports that the person had left Ireland.

It is believed that the alleged perpetrator was not an employee of the Bon Secours but worked for a medical diagnostic company at the hospital.

The medical company issued a statement on the incident, Radio Kerry reports.

It states that the man in question is no longer working at the company.

Cadogan said that a number of people were interviewed in relation to the incident.

“I would appeal to anyone that the gardai have not spoken to, if they have any evidence to offer not to be afraid to come forward and contact the investigation team here in Tralee Garda Station,” he said.

Anyone with information regarding the incident can contact gardaí in Tralee on 066 7102300.
