Johnston Mooney & O'Brien recalls Toastie batch over rubber tubing fears

The company said that there should be no risk to consumers who had already eaten the bread.

IRISH BREAD COMPANY Johnston Mooney & O’Brien is recalling its Toastie sliced pan batch over fears it may contain small pieces of blue plastic tubing.

The company announced this evening that it would be recalling its Toastie 800g sliced pan with a Best Before Date 29 September, Codes D 27 and E27.

The company said that there should be no risk to consumers who had already eaten the bread.

“To the best of our knowledge there is no risk to consumers who may have already consumed the product,” the statement reads.

“Any potentially affected packs have been removed from the supermarket shelves in co-operation with the retail trade and any that were in the distribution system have been recalled by the company.

The company has advised the retail trade and appropriate authorities.

People in possession of an affected batch can return it to the place they brought it for a full refund. They can also send the empty packaging to the Johnston Mooney & O’Brien head office for a refund.

The company said it “apologises for any inconvenience caused by this recall but believes that it is the safest course of action, however slight the risk might be”.
