THE ASSOCIATION OF Garda Sergeants and Inspectors has officially lodged a 16.5% pay restoration claim.
AGSI met Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald this evening to discuss the concerns of its members in issues surrounding pay.
President Antoinette Cunningham said that there had been a “frank exchange of views” with the minister.
“We are happy that we could articulate the concerns of our members,” she said.
We also believe the Minister has a better understanding of our concerns following a meeting with the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform last week.
Cunningham said that AGSI lodged its 16.5% pay claim with the minister at the meeting.
She said that Fitzgerald informed them that the pay claim was ‘an all-Government’ decision.
“We wait with interest for her response on how matters can be progressed,” said Cunningham.
AGSI will hold a Special Delegate Conference on Monday 17 October where members will discuss matters relating to pay restoration, strategy and industrial relations proposals.
Rank-and-file gardaí announced last week that they would cease services for four dates in November in a dispute over pay.
Members of the Garda Representative Association (GRA) rejected pay proposals from the Department of Justice. Fitzgerald is due to meet representatives from the organisation later this week.
