Wrap up well: temperatures set to hit freezing with wintry showers forecast for the week

Temperatures will get progressively colder as the week progresses.

UNSETTLED WEATHER AND wintry showers are likely to hit Ireland later on this week, as temperatures fall to the low single digits and could drop below freezing in some areas.

The weather today is the warmest it will be at for the week, with afternoon highs of 10 to 14°C. Tonight will be a bit cooler with possible rain showers across the country.

Met Éireann forecasts that by tomorrow night showers will spread out across the country, with some becoming wintry in northern areas, especially on higher ground.

Temperatures will just hover above freezing tomorrow night in fresh to strong gusty winds.

Thursday is likely to see the weather get colder again, with highs of just 4 – 8°C during the day in a mixture of sunny spells and widespread showers. There may also be some frost in sheltered areas.

By Thursday night the temperatures will be lower again with lows of -1 to +2 °C. The weather will become clearer in many areas with showers becoming confined to Atlantic coastal counties.

The outlook for Friday and the weekend is shaping up to much the same.

Wrap up well!
