Temperatures to fall as low as -4 tonight as cold snap settles in

Some roads were being treated with salt and grit by councils tonight.

MET ÉIREANN HAS warned that the mercury could dip as low as -4 degrees tonight as they warned that severe frost could develop on roads nationwide.

A national weather warning was in place today and will remain until 9am tomorrow warning, Met Éireann said.

Roads were tonight being treated by councils on some of the country’s busiest routes.

The forecasters said the frost and fog should clear tomorrow and, despite it being cold for most of the day, we should get good sunny spells.

Frost

However, tomorrow night could see temperatures go as low as -3 degrees in certain parts of the country.

A Met Éireann spokesperson said: “It will be cold with a widespread sharp to severe frost and icy stretches on untreated roads. Lowest temperatures plus 2 to -3  and it will be coldest over Ulster and Connacht. There will also be few showers along the south and southeast coasts, but it should dry elsewhere.
