The winter storm is expected to hit Ireland this Friday, and a status yellow weather warning will be in effect for the entire day.

In short, this means a lot of rain and a lot of wind, so make sure you’ve rainproof gear for your Friday Christmas shop (and an alternative to paper shopping bags).

Earlier this week, Met Éireann’s deputy head of forecasting Evelyn Cusack warned that this storm would mostly affect the north-west:

“It looks like the storm centre may track close to the north-west of Ireland, so the north-west is most at risk. ”

The storm will also graze the north-west coast of Scotland, where an Amber warning has been issued.

As for tonight, the rain will clear and it will become cold and frosty. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 4 degrees.

After midnight heavy showers will develop in the west and spread eastwards overnight.
