Man jabs knife at till assistant during off-licence armed robbery

No one was injured in the robbery, but police said that the staff members were very badly shaken.

POLICE IN NORTHERN Ireland are appealing for information after two men robbed an off-licence in Belfast last night, with one of the men lunging at a staff member with a knife.

Police said that two men wearing snoods pulled over their noses and their hoodies pulled tight over their heads entered the off-licence on the Antrim Road at about 8.30pm last night.

After buying something, one of the men asked the till assistant for another item.

When the till opened one of the men produced a knife and lunged towards the staff member, jabbing the knife in her direction.

The other man then removed a sum of money and receipts from the till.

As the men left, they were challenged by a male member of staff. One of them produced the knife again and the two made off with the money on foot.

No one was injured in the robbery, but police said that the staff members were very badly shaken.

Anyone in Northern Ireland with information on the robbery is asked contact detectives at Reactive and Organised Crime on the non-emergency number 101. People in the Republic can call + 44 2890 650222.

People can also call the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
