'I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help': Ben Affleck speaks out about his alcohol addiction

The Hollywood star said he had recently completed treatment.

ACTOR AND DIRECTOR Ben Affleck has spoken out about recently completing treatment for alcohol addiction.

The Hollywood star posted on his public Facebook page that he had recently finished the treatment, calling it the “first step being taken towards a positive recovery”.

Affleck said that he wanted to be a source of strength for anyone “who needs help but is afraid to take the first step”.

“I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I’ve dealt with in the past and will continue to confront,” Affleck said in the post.

“I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be.

I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step.

Affleck said he was lucky to have the love of family and friends who had supported him through his addiction.

“I’m lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I’ve done the work I set out to do,” he said.

The famous actor and director – who shot to fame with 1997′s Oscar-winning Good Will Hunting which he acted in and co-write with Matt Damon – has been separated from his spouse Jennifer Garner since the pair announced their plans to divorce in 2015.

Affleck previously entered rehab for alcohol addiction in 2001.

Recently, he has stepped away from directing The Batman after almost a year in the job. He’ll still star in the film.
