ALL IRISH RAIL services are fully running this morning as the Bus Éireann strike enters its fourth day.
The rail services advised customers that all trains were running normally this morning, following Friday’s disruption to the service as workers refused to pass the Bus Éireann picket line.
“We do not anticipate further disruption arising from the Bus Éireann dispute at this time. Iarnród Éireann is not a party to this dispute,” the service said in a statement.
The strike affects bus routes across the country, with customers advised to make alternative travel arrangements.
Bus Éireann workers are currently engaged in the indefinite strike action in a dispute over the terms and conditions of employees’ contracts, which management are seeking to change.
Unions believe that the savings can be made elsewhere.
The changes will affect workers’ hours, routes and entitlements at the company. There will also be job losses as management tries to shore up serious deficits at the company.
Last night, general secretary of the National Bus and Rail Union (NBRU) Dermot O’Leary called on Transport Minister Shane Ross to intervene in the dispute and establish a forum for talks between both sides.
“We are calling on the Minister to provide the kind of leadership that is vital towards resolving this dispute,” O’Leary said.
