Poll: Should young children be banned from buying phones with internet access?

A proposed new law aims to curb youth access to the internet.

A NEW BILL could soon be introduced to the Dáil which will make it illegal for retail outlets to sell a mobile phone with internet access to minors under the age of 14.

Under proposed new laws it will also be illegal for parents to allow their children born after 2015 to own a portable device which has the internet.

Fine Gael TD Jim Daly said the new bill would prevent children from accessing content that is not suitable for their viewing and deter children from engaging in social media sites which are aimed at teenagers.

But would a law like this be going too far?

Today we’re asking: Should children younger than 14 be banned from buying mobile phones with internet access?

Poll Results:

Yes (7171)
No (2814)
Don't know (382)
