Victim in Wicklow Mountains murder case is named locally

The remains of Patricia O’Connor, who was aged in her 50s, were found at a number of locations.

THE WOMAN WHOSE remains were discovered at several remote locations in the Wicklow Mountains has been named locally.

The remains of Patricia O’Connor, who was aged in her 50s and from the south Dublin suburb of Rathfarnham, were found at a number of locations in Co Wicklow in recent days.

A man in his 30s was arrested in connection with her killing, and is still being detained by gardaí this afternoon. He was detained in Co Wexford yesterday evening.

Gardaí believe the woman was killed in Dublin.

Speaking as investigations continued in Co Wicklow, gardaí said there appeared to be no effort made to conceal the remains uncovered yesterday, which were strewn on the side of Military Road in the Sally Gap.

The head and hands of the deceased were found in a plastic bag during search efforts in the area yesterday – three days after the first body part, a torso, was discovered by passers-by close to Enniskerry.

Gardaí said they believed that body parts were thrown in a “cruel manner” out of the window of a car.

“That seems to be the pattern, from Glencree right down to Glenmacnass, the pattern seems to be that body parts were dispersed on the side of the road from a moving vehicle,” Superintendent Pat Ward told reporters yesterday.

Locals who spoke to TheJournal.ie in Rathfarnham close to the woman’s home today said they were shocked at the developments of recent days.

The home is being treated as one of a number of potential crime scenes in the investigation.

Gardaí at Bray are investigating. They can be contacted on 01 666 5300.
