Chicago claims placement of 'Real/Fake' sculpture outside Trump hotel a 'coincidence'

A spokeswoman for the city said that the installation should be interpreted like any other piece of art.

THE CITY OF Chicago has come under fire for allowing a piece of art which critics claim has a political message be erected outside a Trump hotel.

The five-foot golden sculpture which spells out the words Real Fake in gold lettering was installed in the location earlier this week. That same location is often used by a number of people to protest against the US president in the Windy City.

The piece of art was bolted to the path outside the hotel and is expected to stay in its location for a number of months.

City represenatives have come under fire for allowing a piece of art to become a political message.

However, a spokeswoman for Chicago City Hall told ABC7 that the placement of the art was a mere coincidence and that it should be interpreted like any other piece of art.

Christine Carrino, the communications director for the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, released a statement online.

It read: “Any questions about the artist’s intention or the artwork’s background should be directed to the artist’s gallery Kavi Gupta.”
