Gardaí appeal for witnesses after three-year-old boy dies in stabbing incident

Garda and ambulance units were called to the scene in the Riverside apartments.

INVESTIGATIONS ARE CONTINUING into the homicide of a three-year-old boy in Dublin yesterday evening.

The toddler died after being found with apparent stab wounds in the Riverside apartment complex in Poddle Park, Kimmage at about 7pm yesterday.

Garda and ambulance units were called to the scene and the child was found.

An adult female who is in her early 40s was also brought to St. James’ Hospital and is described as being in a serious condition.

It’s understood that both the deceased child and the woman are of Iranian descent.

“Gardaí in Crumlin are investigating a homicide of an infant child (male) that occurred this evening,” a garda spokesperson said last night.

An adult female (early 40s) was also injured in the incident and has been taken to St. James Hospital where her condition is described as serious. The infant was pronounced dead at the scene.

The State Pathologist and members of the Garda Technical Bureau have been attending the scene in the south Dublin suburb since this morning.

Local councillor Ray McHugh described it as “an absolute tragedy”. He added that residents in the area were in a state of shock and disbelief.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the Poddle Park area between 5pm on Sunday and 7pm on Monday to contact them in Crumlin Garda Station on on 01-6666200.
