Brick thrown through window of ambulance parked at Dublin hospital

The incident happened in the early hours of this morning.

SIPTU HAS CONDEMNED an act of vandalism in which the windows of an ambulance were broken in the early hours of this morning.

The incident happened when the ambulance parked up outside the Mater Hospital in Dublin as staff transferred a patient. Union organiser John McCamley said that although it was fortunate that nobody was injured in the incident, it did mean that an emergency vehicle had to be taken off the road.

He said: “While vandalism of this nature is fortunately not common, it is deeply regrettable that it occurs at all. When such incidents do occur all the relevant stakeholders must fully cooperate in the follow up investigation and with putting any relevant new safeguards in place.”

“SIPTU representatives also insist that the management of the HSE make every effort to ensure our members are not placed in any situation which would put them at risk.”

McCamley said that gardaí are now investigating the matter.
