The fire was reported at 7am today.

A MAN DIED and two others were injured after a domestic fire broke out this morning in Dublin.

The fire broke out in a property on Grove Park in Rathmines, just behind Grove Road which runs along the Grand Canal.

The property is a house that has been split into a number of flats.

The alarm was raised at 7am this morning and Dublin Fire Brigade units from Dolphin’s Barn and Donnybrook attended the scene.

Three ambulances and the gardaí also responded to the incident. The fire was extinguished shortly before 7.30am.

The three people were taken to St James’ Hospital where the man was later pronounced dead.

The two other people remain in hospital and their injuries are understood not to be serious.

“It’s hard to know what to do”

The fire is believed to have started in the middle floor of the building. According to tenants the building is split into eight separate flats.

One tenant  - who gave him name as Albero – spoke to TheJournal.ie and described waking up to the sound of a fire alarm at about 7am.

“Then someone knocked on the door to say there was a fire,” he said.

When I opened the door I saw black smoke and ran out. I was in pyjamas but thankfully a neighbour gave me shoes.

Albero said he didn’t know what to do when he saw the fire.

It was scary. It never happened before… It’s hard to know how to react.

He said he did not know the person who had died in the blaze.

The back of the house seen from Grove Road is severely burnt on the outside with the windows smashed. Two gardaí stood at the entrance to the house on Grove Park this afternoon.
