Appeal for mourners to attend funeral of Irishman who died alone in Manchester

The Council of Irish Associations in Manchester are making funeral arrangements.

AN APPEAL HAS been launched for people to attend the funeral of an Irishman who died alone in Manchester.

The Council of Irish Associations in Manchester posted the request on Facebook yesterday.

In the post, they said that John Joseph O’Brien, aged 73, died on 9 August.

The Manchester bereavement service has arranged a funeral for O’Brien, which is due to take place at Manchester Crematorium on Wednesday 27 September at 10am.

The council stressed concern that nobody will turn up for the service.

“No mourners are expected so please if any of the Associations can send some members, or if any of Irish Manchester’s community are able to spare an hour to help give your fellow countryman a decent well-attended funeral it will be much appreciated,” the council wrote.

The council is aiding in funeral arrangements for the service.

Any next of kin is being asked to contact the bereavement team on 0161 234 3871 or 0161 234 2932.
