Passengers urged to check if Ryanair owes them compensation for cancelling flights

Hundreds of flights are going to be cancelled.

THE COMMISSION FOR Aviation Regulation (CAR) has urged customers affected by the widespread Ryanair cancellations to check if they’re entitled to money.

In a statement issued yesterday, the airline announced that it is to cancel 40-50 flights every day until the end of October to improve its punctuality.

The airline said its punctuality has fallen below 80% in the first two weeks of September due to a number of reasons including air traffic control (ATC) strikes, weather disruptions and the impact of increased holiday allocations to pilots and cabin crew.

But now the CAR has issued a statement reminding customers of their rights under EU law. Many, the commission said, could be entitled to compensation on top of refunds.

It read: “The Commission for Aviation Regulation would like all passengers affected by cancellations to Ryanair flights to be aware of their rights and has issued the following statement:

“If you have been affected by the Ryanair programme of flight cancellations you are entitled to a choice of refund or rerouting. Compensation may also be payable depending on the notice period Ryanair has given you.”
