Here’s what’s been happening over the last seven days, starting with the green light for Apple in Athenry…
After almost three years of delays, the High Court has greenlighted Apple’s planned €850 million data centre at Athenry.
An Bord Pleanála’s earlier decision approving the 116,00 sq m centre has been upheld, despite local complaints about potential traffic congestion and environmental impact.
Fancy owning a slice of Dublin’s dockland district? Cough up €27m and you could be the new owner. The five-acre plot is on East Street on the north side of the river.
Estate agents Savills says that it expects interest from residential and rental funds and developers for the site, which is close to Connolly and Docklands rail stations and the Luas terminus.
In his Budget 2018 speech, Minister Paschal Donohoe said that a total of 3,800 new social houses would be built next year by local authorities and Approved Housing Bodies. On closer examination though, it appears only 31 of those will be builds that were not already previously announced, as TheJournal.ie discovered.
The figure of 3,800 had already been flagged by Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy in September.
As of this weekend, a refurbished 1,300-seater community centre in Dublin’s Firhouse will become The Church Of Scientology’s largest Dublin hub.
The Church of Scientology in Ireland currently operates out of two small offices, both based in Dublin city centre. Plans to open a Scientology hub on the Firhouse site were first reported by TheJournal.ie back in July.
An upcoming music festival in Lucan’s Weston Airport may be blocked by a court order, if residents have their way.
