Armed gardaí arrest man following attempted robbery of Louth bookmakers

A man in his 40s has been arrested and charged.

ARMED GARDAÍ HAVE arrested and charged a man in his 40s following an attempted robbery at a bookmakers in Dunleer, Louth, yesterday.

A masked man entered a bookmakers, threatened staff, and demanded cash at the premises at around 5.30pm. However, he left without any money.

Gardaí said that after fleeing the scene, he was arrested a short distance away by local officers with the assistance of the Regional Support Unit (RSU).

A garda spokesman said: “The man is due to appear before Dundalk District Court this morning, 19th October 2017 at 10:30am in connection with the incident. The investigation is ongoing.”
