Clondalkin teen shot in head 'involved in row with known criminal two weeks ago'

The teenager was shot in the head last night.

A TEENAGER SHOT in the head in Clondalkin last night may have been targeted after he was involved in an altercation with a serious criminal in a courthouse two weeks ago.

One avenue of investigation for gardaí is that the victim of the shooting (19) was in a court building in Dublin with three other youths when they became involved in an argument with a well-known criminal.

It is understood threats were exchanged between the youths and the man who was in the court to support a relative who was charged with a public order incident.

The teenage victim, who was shot in the head, is still alive and is in a serious condition in Connolly Hospital.

He is from the Clondalkin area but he was not living at the scene of the shooting in the Shancastle Park area.

The criminal is part of a well-known criminal family in the area who have been behind armed robberies and drug trafficking in west Dublin. Members of the same family are suspected to have been involved in tiger kidnappings in recent years.

Superintendent John Gordan of Lucan garda station this afternoon appealed to the public for information.

An incident room has been set up in at Lucan garda station and officers are carrying out door-to-door inquiries in a bid to catch the shooter.
