UK deputy prime minister Damian Green resigns from cabinet after porn allegations

British Prime Minister Theresa May accepted Green’s resignation.

THE UK FIRST secretary of state Damian Green has resigned from cabinet after he was found to have breached the ministerial code.

Green was being investigated because of pornography images reportedly found on a Parliament computer in 2008.

Green is reported to have quit after he was found to have made “inaccurate and misleading” statements around what he knew in relation to claims that pornography had been found on a computer in his Commons office in 2008.

British Prime Minister Theresa May accepted Green’s resignation, who announced he was stepping down following the probe into his conduct.

“It is therefore with deep regret, and enduring gratitude for the contribution you have made over many years, that I asked you to resign from the government and have accepted your resignation,” May wrote in a letter addressed to Green.

Green had claimed earlier he was the victim of a smear campaign. The pornography was reportedly found on his computer during a police investigation of government leaks.

Green’s spokesman had denied that Green ever watched or downloaded pornography on the computers seized from his office.
