Man in his 40s arrested in connection with fatal Limerick stabbing

Patrick O’Connor was stabbed by another man in Fitzgerald’s Bar, in Thomondgate, around 11.55pm on Saturday.

A MAN IN his 40s has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of Patrick O’Connor on Saturday in Limerick.

Patrick O’Connor, from Kileely, Limerick city, was stabbed by another man in Fitzgerald’s Bar, in Thomondgate, around 11.55pm on Saturday.

The 24-year-old received serious stab wounds and was taken to University Hospital Limerick where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Gardaí investigating the stabbing have arrested a man in his 40s.

He is currently detained at Henry Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

A post-mortem on O’Connor’s body is to be carried out by deputy state pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster, at approximately 2pm today.

Speaking yesterday, Superintendent Derek Smart, who is leading the investigation, confirmed he had begun a “murder investigation”.

Gardaí have appealed to witnesses who may have been in the area at the time of the incident or have information to contact them at Mayorstone Garda Station on 061 456 980, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
