All aboard: 12 of Ireland's most picturesque railway stations

Stay on the right side of the tracks with these architectural gems.

TRANSPORTING PASSENGERS FROM one end of the country to the other. Bringing them from congested city centres to calming seaside towns. Irish railways can take you anywhere. Within reason, of course.

As a result of our wide rail network, the country is full of visually spectacular stations, from DART stations packed with commuters to quieter rural outposts.

Here are twelve that caught our eye. ..

1. Bray Daly DART Station, Co Wicklow

2. Newbridge railway station, Co Kildare

3. Dundalk Clarke station, Co Louth

4. Wickow’s bungalow-like railway building on Station Road

5. Carrick-on-Shannon station, Co Leitrim

6. Cork Kent station on Lower Glanmire Road, Cork

7. Waterford station, established in 1864

8. Donabate station in North County Dublin

9. Connolly Station, nestled in Dublin’s City Centre

10. Hazelhatch and Celbridge railway station, Co Kildare

11. Dublin’s Sutton station

12. Clara railway station, Co Offaly
