TOMORROW’S WEATHER LOOKS set to be severe as Met Éireann predicts “a wet and very windy day”.
Wind and rain warnings have been issued for several counties.
A Status Yellow wind warning will be in place for Munster and Connacht from 4am until 3pm tomorrow.
A Status Yellow wind warning will also be in place for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal from 8am until 7pm tomorrow.
Southeasterly winds will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65km/h with gusts of 90 to 110km/h. Gusts are expected to exceed these values in exposed coastal areas and on higher ground, especially in the southwest.
A Status Yellow rainfall warning will be in place for Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, Galway, Mayo, Cork, Kerry, Tipperary and Waterford from 6am until 6pm tomorrow.
Heavy rain will lead to accumulations of around 25 to 40mm, but may exceed these limits in mountainous areas.
‘Severe and damaging gusts’
Although tonight will be mainly dry, Met Éireann has said winds will pick up overnight with rain expected to reach the west coast by dawn.
Southeast winds will increase to become strong with gales, or strong gales, along coasts, bringing potentially “severe and damaging gusts”.
Rain will spread to all areas during the morning and will turn heavy, especially in the west and south and later in the east.
Rain in the west and southwest will clear to heavy showers later in the afternoon, with highest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees predicted.
Saturday’s weather looks more settled with showers confined to more western parts of the country and mostly dry weather in the east.
Sunny spells and showers are likely on Sunday, but many eastern areas will stay dry.
