6 family-friendly events not to be missed at the Dublin Chinese New Year Festival

There’s plenty for the whole family to enjoy.

THE DUBLIN CHINESE New Year Festival 2019 kicks off on Friday for over two weeks of celebrations.

Now in it’s 12th year, there are over 75 events taking place around the capital to celebrate the Year of the Pig.

From drawing live pigs to planning a performance, here are six events that the whole family will enjoy. 

Chinese New Year Food Extravaganza: Head to the Asian market on Drury Street for a free food and drinks tasting event where you’ll have the opportunity to try a range of authentic Asian food. 

Suits: 4 years +. When: Saturday, 2 February. Where: Asia Market, Drury Street. Costs: free. Find out more information here. 

Chinese Folding Book Workshop: Learn about the Chinese art of sheben by creating your own folding book and writing and illustrating your own story. 

Suits: 4-13 years. When: Saturday, 2 February. Age 4-8 years from 11am-1pm, age 8-13 years from 2pm-4pm. Where: The Tara Building, Tara Street. Costs: €10. Find out more information here  and here

Chinese New Year Family Workshop: Learn how to make Chinese lanterns and blossom trees at this family-friendly workshop run by artist Kathryn Maguire.

Chinese New Year Pigs Workshop: Celebrate the Year of the Pig by painting your own festive porker at The Chester Beatty Library.

Drop-in Family Workshop with Chun Zhu Wang: Learn all about the Chinese New Year and the Year of the Pig at this free art and craft workshop with artist Chun Zhu Wang.

Pig Life Drawing Workshop: Head to St Anne’s City Farm to learn new drawing skills and meet two of the farm’s pigs!
