'We adored the green door and that inspired the rest': Lynn shares her chic entrance hallway

Lynn spent five months renovating her home before she moved in.

EACH WEEK, WE ask an Irish person with a passion for interiors to share one photo of their favourite spot in their home.

Lynn and her husband Dan moved into their Waterford home in September last year after spending five months renovating.

“I really enjoyed the whole process of renovating and decorating our home,” she says.

“I’ve always been into design and did my degree in graphic design before going down the marketing route, which is what I work in now.”

This week, Lynn Ferrari (@myoldbrandnewhome) chatted us through her favourite space in her home: her entrance hallway.

What do you love most about this part of your home?

I love that it’s the first space you see walking in our front door. It makes me happy knowing I’m home. There’s a large window to the right which lets in lots of natural light and really shows off the tiles. Our green door is one of the only things we kept from the original house and I just love it. I think an entrance hall is super important and can really set the tone for the rest of the house.

What was your inspiration when you were putting the space together?

This was the one room in the house that just came together without a Pinterest board. We adored the green door and that kind of inspired the rest of the room and colour palette. I loved the idea of a monochrome hall and letting the green door stand out but I’m such a sucker for pink, I couldn’t resist this locker.

For me the most important elements of a room are the colour of the walls, the lights and the floors. I think those three things can tell you a lot about a home and can make a big impact by adjusting any of them. Another element I try to add to all my rooms is greenery. I think plants can change the vibe of a room and bring the whole look together.

Talk us through some of the objects in the photo.

We bought this beautiful, fun locker from a local store in Waterford called Finders Keepers and use it as a place to hang coats. I love the colour of it against the green door and black and white tiles. The tiles are from another Waterford company called Best Tiles and create a great first impression of our home.

The wreath was made for me by a lovely Irish company called Willow and Wreath and really enhances the colour of the door. Finally, the mirror is from Harvey Norman and I love the brass colour and bold lines. I love buying local, but we did find some great items in the larger furniture stores.

How well does this photo reflect the rest of your home?

I think the hall reflects the style in the rest of the house. It’s very much old meets new. We kept a lot of the original features in the house but added our own twist on the colour schemes and furniture. Pink is a theme you’ll see a lot in our house, along with lots of greenery. The tiles are one of my favourite things, although they’re a pain to keep clean.

Be honest: how much tidying did you do before taking this photo?

I spent an hour steam mopping the floor, but otherwise I don’t think I spent too much time cleaning! There’s nothing I can really clutter our hall with. The coats and shoes go straight in the locker, so it probably hides any mess there might be.
