'I spent nine months in bed': Hannah shares the ups and downs behind this photo of her newborn son

This week, Hannah Sayers (@sayersstyle) chatted us through a photo of her son Donncha when he was one day old.

Tell us a bit about this photo. What inspired you to take it?

Donncha was born the day before, so as with most excited new parents we were trying to get a photo of the little cutie to send around to family and friends.

What’s one thing that’s going on in this photo that you wouldn’t know from looking at it?

Unfortunately, I had a pretty miserable pregnancy, suffering with hyperemesis gravidarum throughout. I spent pretty much the whole nine months in bed. For a few days after giving birth I still felt unwell and hadn’t yet had any sleep (as well as all the other joys you experience after giving birth). However, Donncha is worth every moment and I feel so lucky that he is now here with us.

Did it take many attempts to get the right shot?

Although Donncha now loves the camera, it took a couple of attempts on this day as he was wiggling (which is why my hands ended up in the photo). I had to enlist the help of my husband to get behind the camera.

Do you have a family photo from Instagram with a great behind-the-scenes story? The day at the beach when the little one ingested a mouthful of sand – or the smiley photo taken just minutes after a tantrum? If so, we want to hear from you! Email amy@thejournal.ie with a few lines about yourself and your kids for a chance to feature in What You Don’t See Here.
