Body of woman (70s) discovered in burning car in Cork

A man is in a critical condition after he was pulled from a river.

GARDAÍ HAVE LAUNCHED an investigation after a woman’s body was discovered in a burning car in north Cork.

The body of the woman, who was in her 70s, was found in the Doneraile area of north Cork this afternoon.

A man, who is understood to be in his 50s, was rescued from a river shortly after gardaí conducted a search of the area. He is in a serious condition.

The scene is currently preserved and a technical examination is to be carried out by the Garda Technical Bureau. The Office of the State Pathologist has been informed and a post mortem is to be carried out, the results of which will determine the course of the investigation, gardaí said.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the Doneraile area between 3pm and 5pm, particular anyone with mobile phone footage or dashcam footage, to contact Fermoy Garda Station on 025-82100 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111.
